Dual credit courses allow a student to earn credit in both high school and college at the same time. Students may begin earning dual credit courses in 10th grade, if they meet the criteria. Here are the standard ways to earn dual credit while at Oakley High School:
10th grade:
Online dual credit courses may be taken through IDLA or other websites. These can be paid for by Fast Forward funds (see info below). Many of these classes require previous courses; for example, students must take high school Biology before they take dual credit Biology. These details are clearly explained in the online course catalogs found here: https://oakleyhs.idiglearning.net/
Anthropology 102 (fall) and Anthropology 104 (spring) may also be taken by 10th graders, in-school with Dr. Jenks, as long as they understand it is a challenging course.
DC Child Development
DC Statistics
11th grade:
In addition to the courses described above, 11th grade students may also have the opportunity to take the following dual credit classes in-school, if they qualify:
DC History 111 (fall) and DC History 112 (spring) (To qualify, students must meet the minimum grade requirement at end of the 10th grade year and submit an essay to be accepted.)
DC College Algebra (fall) and DC Trigonometry (spring) (To qualify, students must have previously passed Algebra 2 with an A or B. This fulfills the ALEKS test required by colleges.)
12th grade:
In addition to the courses described above, 12th grade students may also have the opportunity to take these dual credit classes in-school, if they qualify:
English 101 (fall) and English 102 (spring) (To qualify, students must be in the honors program for English 11 and US History the previous year. This fulfills the ALEKS test required by colleges.)
DC Calculus (yearlong) (To qualify, students must have previously passed College Algebra with an A or B. This fulfills the ALEKS test required by colleges.)

IMPORTANT: The tuition for dual credit classes can be paid for by the state's Fast Forward funds, up to the amount of $4,125 per student, as long as the proper steps are taken, as described below. We help walk the students through these steps, but we want you to be clear on the process:
Register for the course at the high school.
Apply to the college as a dual credit student (CSI, CWI, BSU, NNU, or LCSC).
After being accepted, register for the course at the college.
Sign the Advanced Opportunities Participation Form (see below) and turn in to the school counselor (Aaron Morgan).
Have the counselor add your name/course to the Idaho Advanced Opportunities portal.
Repeat these registration steps each semester.
Go to https://oakleyhs.idiglearning.net/ to decide which class you want and register for it in the course catalog. It will go to the counselor for approval.
Sign the Advanced Opportunities Participation Form (below) and turn in to the school counselor (Aaron Morgan).
Have the counselor add your name/course to the Idaho Advanced Opportunities portal.
Repeat these registration steps each semester.
College courses are generally much faster paced than regular high school courses.
Grades earned in dual credit courses affect your college GPA forever and may affect financial aid eligibility.
When registering for a college course, you must be aware of the college policies regarding deadlines for enrolling, withdrawing and grading.
There is additional information you need to know before you sign up, and it is located on the Advanced Opportunities Participation Form below.

Students and parents must sign the form and deliver it to their school counselor.
